A Friend's Wedding

Well for the past few posts I've been raving about this wedding that I went to, it was great! The weather was nice, the food scrumptious, the band rockin' and the company even better =]

Headband and plait

I got my hair done at the hair dressers they curled it, pinned it up to my right as my dress's one strap was on the left, and did a French plait at the front of my hair. I put on my hair band to complete the look :D

For my make up I had foundation, blusher, mascara and silver glitter on my bottom eyelid, and plum eye-shadow and grey/black eye-shadow blended in on my top lid.

We will get professional pictures soon so I will put them up when they come. The day after the wedding there was a BBQ and I wore my handbag as a sporan and wore my ladies mini kilt.

For a wedding present I made this small wedding sampler that I designed myself :D It took about 3 hours to make. I needed to find a pattern for the & symbol as I wasn't sure how to do it.

Marc Chagall Inspired Skirt

Me modelling the finished skirt in the garden
I am about to go away for about two weeks to a Wedding and then to Kirriemuir so whilst I am absent getting lots of pictures taken for the blog :P I will leave you to look at my skirt that I designed in my 2nd year at Uni.
Back of skirt
We were given an artist, I was given Marc Chagall, and we had to choose a theme and create paintings and art work based on the styles of the artist. I chose florals.
The skirt took 6 weeks to print and sew up and the design process took 6 weeks to complete. I was happy with the result although something happened when the skirt got "finished" (which wasnt my fault!) and so one of the panels became lighter than the rest so I turned another panel the wrong way around so that it looked symetrical around the skirt going pale bright pale bright.
These are my favourite Chagall paintings that were my main inspiration:

You may have seen this painting in the film Notting Hill

Here are my skirt designs on paper. I photocopied my paintings and collaged them together onto the skirt templates (would be repeated 4 times to make the full skirt).
First design

One of my favourite designs - I liked the lavender flowers and the colours seemed very much like Chagall.

A variation in my first design

My lecturers favourite design

My final design roughly collaged with photoshop

My final skirt design!
Skirt design painted onto a blank screen with reactive dyes (I drew on the outlines with a permanent marker so I had a guide when painting. Then a separate screen was used for the black outlines)
Finished skirt hanging up - you can see the faded panel clearly here =[

Once Upon a Dream

Edges unfinished and sticking out
I'm starting my collection of embroideries to sell on my website...
Once upon a dream seemed to be a nice quote to but on this one. I stuck to the theme of browns and creams/whites.
Edges tucked in
I'm not sure if tucking the edges in looks better than leaving them a bit frayed and sticking out.
The "Once" was done in split stitch, "Upon" was done in backstitch, "A" was done in cross stitch and "Dream" was done with running stitch and then the white thread threaded through - cant remember the name of that stitch :S

Cross Stitch Crazy!

I went into Hobby Craft on Friday and went a little crazy buying things - but don't worry! I'm thinking of making things and trying to start up a small business.
Above is my cross stitch inspired by a previous picture I found on the internet:
Not made by me!
I think I will add some more stitches or something to it, it just looks too simple!
Here is a cross stitch I've just finished - it was supposed to be in a little plastic sewing frame but it was too small for it! so I went crazy with stitches. I'll have to find a frame or card to put this on and hopefully will sell it!
Bye for now... if anyone actually reads this blog! :S

Cross Stitch - Home Sweet Home

I did this cross stitch two years ago! I haven't really finished it though, there is supposed to be a blue border around the edge but I thought I would just put it in a frame for now.
My shelf

Button necklace I made blue tacked on frame.

I have bought some lovely white fairy lights for my bedroom and am going to attach flowers and butterflies to them. (not real ones though!) So I went into Hobby Craft and bought two bags of pink and white roses, and two boxes with butterflies.

Then whilst I was in Claire's Accessories (Its always so cheep and there was a sale on too! Bonus!) I found a white jewellery hanger for £5 so I decided to decorate it with some of the flowers whilst I wait for the fairy lights to arrive.
As you can see I have way too much jewellery! I put it up in my hall way first and it would make a beautiful key holder but I don't have enough keys to hang.
