Crochet Hats

I have three hats that I have just finished crocheting! I like how quick crochet is and how quirky and cute outcomes can be made!
The first one I mentioned in a previous post. It was going to be a bag but then I changed it to a hat. I sewed up one side and just decided to put it on my head it looked so cute! Like a little elf's hat!

Well thanks for reading the blog! The two baby hats will be on my etsy page soon. I will be keeping the crochet square hat because it took me ages and I love it!

Internship

My friend and I who are doing our Peter Scott internship.

I'm almost finished my Peter Scott internship - it is going great. I am doing mainly yarn wraps and mood board stuff =]
Last week I was at Roam Studio knitting scarves to practise for production, this is what I have done so far:

I've been busy making things and finding things I've made to sell.

My cross stitch baby bibs that I am trying to sell...
Also in Hawick there is a lovely textile tower house, which, as well as being a museum on textiles and its history in the borders but it has a lovely gift shop were they sell lots of hand crafted things. I am going to be selling (still to be confirmed I think) my crocheted pebbles there! I will need to make lots more and vary the size of pebble and yarn used.

The crochet pebble that will be shown to the boss of the textile tower house.
More news to come soon I hope!

Crochet Patch

Jessie and I

Today we packed all of our third year uni work away! Its all been marked! But we don't get our marks until June - and they usually are late giving them out too =[
But I have been free to do some crafty things so here is me and my friends weaving, cross stitching and crocheting!

These friend you see are also my flatmates and class mates. Hannah specialises in weaving! Here is a link to her blog.
Jessie specialises in print here is a link to her etsy page! She loves hand knitting.

Today I used a really nice book my friend got me for Christmas called "Cute & easy crochet" by Nicki Trench.
I have done a quick little square using some silk twill yarn and a cashmere and wool blend yarn. Here's the finished result:

Crocheted Square
The pattern says to make 27... I might just put the one I made onto a top as a cute pocket...

I Love You Pillow

Hi again :D
Next week I start my 1 week internship with Peter Scott - exciting stuff!
Bags, boxes and invites

This week I have been practising knitting scarves for a company in Galashiels called Roam Studio, its great fun but I need to keep practising as I made quite a few mistakes...
wrapping paper designs and crochet pebble wedding favours

On Friday I had to do a presentation of my work to a company called Tiger Print. They design cards and wrapping papers etc. for M&S. Here is me with my work:

It was based on a tiger print archive print - a floral repeat, and Heriot Watt archive lace pieces. I did a wedding collection with invites, name placements, bags, boxes and wedding favours.

Peter Scott

Last semester my class did a project with a company called Peter Scott. Its a knitwear company based in Hawick. We had to print onto knit and incorporate Scotland's heritage with a twist.
The head designer then chose 6 winners. 3 knit students and 3 print students. I came 2nd in the print students!
Last Friday we had to put up our work in the Borders Textile Tower House Museum.
Here is me and my boards:

 Here's some close ups:

ITV also did a short clip about us! I was really nervous but CLICK HERE to see it.
One final note... 3 people took my buissness cards after my exhibition was up for a week! Very exciting :D

Freelance Designer!

My university have set up a mentor scheme for the third years - I got a knitwear freelance designer who is helping me get experience in the knitwear industry. She has been knitting swatches for a swatching company and has let me assist by printing onto samples she has knitted on.

This means that they employ some free lance designers and give them a direction they want to go in. Then the designers will knit lots of mini samples of top fronts and sends them to the company. The swatching company then go out and try and sell the designs to companies. When they buy the designs it belongs to them and not the designer any more =[ they can then change anything they like about the design - e.g. the colour. The designer then cant use the images of the designs in any other projects but can keep images for themselves for future reference.

The designer will get paid once for the design and then the company can keep all the profits made when the sample is created into garments.
It's a sad world for designers but great experience for me!
My designers are in London and will go to New York aswell! Great =]
