Heriot Watt University Archive

Hi just started third year and its very hectic! we have two industry projects that we are designing for. I have visited the universities vast archive - full of lots of different textiles. I'm not sure how old it dates back to. Here are some of the textiles I found there:

These next images of crochet and lace were made by a woman from the Borders who taught the craft and died, her daughter then gave the creations to the university.

Brave!

Me with my Brave soundtrack, Brave poster and Cinema Poster
I am so proud to be Scottish!! I have seen the new Disney Pixar film twice now, once in 2D and then in 3D. I'm not a big fan of 3D it usually hurts my eyes after a while. But it was great! The first time I saw it was in Ireland and not many people laughed - and there were a lot of children crying at the bears and the witch. I then saw it in Edinburgh and everyone was laughing!
To the first performance I wore my mini kilt (Ferguson tartan) and decorated my cheeks with a thistle and a Scottish flag:

For the second visit I wore my tartan shawl.

I bought a Brave lunch box and it arrived today! It's so cute!
I also bought a Merida doll to go with my Rapunzel doll that I got last year for Christmas!
More pictures to come of my Brave things! I'm moving into the flat for Uni on Saturday so by Monday I'll have my little Brave shrine set up in my room!
I edited that picture from the beginning of the post so that I became Merida!

Cushions

My duvet cover from Next arrived today... followed by an embaressing pyjama incident outside! Its gorgeous - still have to wash it though and take it out of the packaging!

Heart embroidery on the two pillows of my duvet set

I was inspired to make another cushion for the bed and here it is:
I had a pillow ready made and on the back of it pinned this lovely fabric (it was a scrap piece left over from the one made yesterday) and stitched it on using big obvious stitching. I then sewed on these wooden buttons I got from John Lewis.

Here's a picture of today's and yesterdays cushions together!

Interior Decorating

I have less than two weeks before I move into the new flat for Uni! Im going into third year at Heriot Watt University (Studying design for textiles). I'm trying to get ready for that and also the summer project we have to do (which is a little confusing!).
I Love You Pillow (one end still needs to be stuffed more and sewn up!)
But I've sort of combined my research for interiors with creating stuff for the flat. I've gone for a pink/beige/white cutesy look for my room.

I bought a beautiful rug from John Lewis 100% cotton and it has a lovely jacquard floral pattern in it, but once I got it home I found out it was just a huge pillow case! So i've unpicked the seams EVERYWHERE - it really was well made :L - and I've finally got it looking like the lovely blanket it should have been =]
2nd Close up of pillow
Today I also made a lovely pillow saying I Love You on it - on each letter I used a different stitch/medium so that it all looked different I'm very pleased with it, plus it also goes with a little embroidery I made last night:

It also coincidently goes with my other embroidery I completed a month ago:

More pics to come soon :D

A Friend's Wedding

Well for the past few posts I've been raving about this wedding that I went to, it was great! The weather was nice, the food scrumptious, the band rockin' and the company even better =]

I got my hair done at the hair dressers they curled it, pinned it up to my right as my dress's one strap was on the left, and did a French plait at the front of my hair. I put on my hair band to complete the look :D

We will get professional pictures soon so I will put them up when they come. The day after the wedding there was a BBQ and I wore my handbag as a sporan and wore my ladies mini kilt.

Close up of kilt and sporran (chain made out of my necklace hense the locket!)
For a wedding present I made this small wedding sampler that I designed myself :D It took about 3 hours to make. I needed to find a pattern for the & symbol as I wasn't sure how to do it.
